For the ninth consecutive year AMSEA is offering mini-grants to help fund cold-water and boating safety training and education projects in Alaska. This year’s grants are being offered as part of AMSEA’s Rural Boating Safety Initiative. The funds are available to any organization or business desiring to offer boating safety or cold-water safety training, taught by AMSEA-trained educators and instructors, which meets the criteria as outlined in the 2011 grant guidelines.
The goal of these grants is to increase or enhance safety training and education for rural Alaska populations identified as high-risk by AMSEA’s 2009 rural boating safety survey. Groups and topics to be targeted are: rural boaters age 20 to 29; rural women boaters, especially those who live and boat in Western Alaska; increasing PFD use; reducing alcohol use by recreational and subsistence boaters.
Grants are limited to a maximum of $4,000 per project.
Proposals for less than $4,000 are encouraged to allow for a variety of projects.
A team of AMSEA staff and Board members will review all proposals.
Indirect or administrative charges are not allowed on these mini-grants.
Mini-grants will be awarded for projects to be completed before December 31, 2011. Grant applications must be received by AMSEA via email no later than 4:00 PM, Alaska Time, Friday, October 29, 2009. Proposals must be submitted sent electronically to facilitate reviews. Awards will be announced December 1, 2010.
