AMSEA Executive Director Takes a Sabbatical

Executive Director, Jerry Dzugan, will take a four-month sabbatical from his work at AMSEA beginning September 2, 2016. During his time away from work, Jerry plans travel to New England and the Southwest and to spend time camping and hiking. We wish Jerry a restful and renewing sabbatical. Funding for Jerry's sabbatical has been provided by the Rasmuson Foundation. In Jerry's absence, Lily Herwald will take over as Interim Executive Director. Lily brings years of successful non-profit organization management experience from her six years as Executive Director at Sitka's community radio station, KCAW, and six years as a Program Planner and Proposal Writer at the Southeast Alaska Regional Heal

Sitka Outdoor Survival Camp

AMSEA held it's first ever Outdoor Survival Camp for kids in grades 3 to 5 on June 28 & 29. The two-day camp was well attended and twenty-five campers learned a variety of survival skills for outdoor emergencies. The photos in the slide show cover most of the activities in the camp. AMSEA on the Great Lakes Again

For the second year in a row AMSEA has offered Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshops to commercial fishermen on the Great Lakes. Today, AMSEA instructors, Ron Kinnunen and Jerry Dzugan, are completing two weeks of Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshops in Michigan and Wisconsin. Wisconsin workshops were held in Red Cliff and Sturgeon Bay. In Michigan, we had workshops in Baraga, Naubinway, Suttons Bay, and Bayport.
