Washington Sea Grant and AMSEA are conducting a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor class in Port Townsend, Washington. This course is offered at no cost to commercial fishermen thanks to support from NIOSH, the U.S. Coast Guard, and AMSEA members. Students should bring an immersion suit, a change of clothes, snacks, a pen, and a photo ID.

The class will cover these topics:

  • EPIRBs, Signal Flares, and MAYDAY Calls

  • Man Overboard Recovery

  • Firefighting

  • Flooding & Damage Control

  • Dewatering Pumps

  • Immersion Suits and PFDs

  • Abandon Ship Procedures

  • Helicopter Rescue

  • Life Rafts

  • Cold-Water Survival Skills

  • Emergency Procedures Drills

  • In-the-Water Skills Practice Session

This course meets the US Coast Guard training requirements for drill conductors on commercial fishing vessels, 46 CFR 28.270(c).
