AMSEA is conducting a five and a half-day U. S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) in Panama City Beach, FL starting on April 10 and concluding on April 15. This workshop is a closed-enrollment course for NOAA fisheries observers.


The MSIT provides practical, hands-on experience in survival equipment use and procedures. It is an intensive, train-the-trainer program. It is recommended for anyone who wants to provide required Emergency Drill Conductor training for commercial fishermen, or others who need the skills to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. It prepares participants to become U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructors and is taught by experienced mariners.

  • Risk Assessment

  • How to Conduct Effective Drills

  • Navigation Regulations

  • Cold-Water Survival Skills

  • Man-Overboard Recovery

  • Firefighting;

  • Life Rafts

  • Abandon-Ship Procedures

  • Helicopter-Rescue

  • Flares, MAYDAYs, and Other Emergency Signals

  • Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)

  • Flooding Control

  • Conducting Safety Orientations

  • Cross-Cultural Communication
