AMSEA is conducting a five and a half-day U. S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) in Seward, Alaska starting on April 24 and concluding on April 39. The MSIT provides practical, hands-on experience in survival equipment use and procedures.

 

This workshop is an intensive, train-the-trainer program. It is recommended for anyone who wants to provide required Emergency Drill Conductor training for commercial fishermen, or others who need the skills to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. It prepares participants to become U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructors and is taught by experienced mariners.

  • Methods of Marine Safety Instruction

  • Emergency Procedures

  • Risk Assessment

  • How to Conduct Effective Drills

  • Navigation Regulations

  • Cold-Water Survival Skills

  • Man-Overboard Recovery

  • Firefighting;

  • Life Rafts

  • Abandon-Ship Procedures

  • Helicopter-Rescue

  • Flares, MAYDAYs, and Other Emergency Signals

  • Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)

  • Flooding Control

  • Conducting Safety Orientations

  • Cross-Cultural Communication

 

Students may elect to co-teach their first class in Seward in a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop on May 1.
