You Can Become an AMSEA Marine Safety Instructor!

Have you made a commitment to developing marine safety skills and imparting them to your crew? Are you someone that enjoys learning and teaching new skills to others? Have you ever thought about becoming a Marine Safety Instructor?

AMSEA recruits and trains new instructors several times each year. Our next Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) is April 25 – 30 in Seward, Alaska. The MSIT is a five and a half-day U. S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructor Training that prepares participants to become U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructors.

Tuition for the workshop is $995 and a tuition scholarship may be available if you have a background in commercial fishing. Upon completion, you will be qualified to teach AMSEA cold-water safety and survival curricula. You may be able to teach AMSEA Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshops in your homeport or other locations around the country. You can even get paid for teaching!

This workshop is an intensive, train-the-trainer program that provides practical, hands-on experience in survival equipment use and procedures. It is recommended for anyone who wants to provide Emergency Drill Conductor training for commercial fishermen, or marine safety and survival skills. This course is taught by experienced mariners.

Instructor Rick Petersen will cover:

  • Methods of Marine Safety Instruction

  • Emergency Procedures

  • Risk Assessment
