AMSEA is offering a two-day Outdoor Survival Camp for youngsters in grades 3-5. Based on AMSEA's K-12 curriculum, Surviving Outdoor Adventures, the camp will teach children age-appropriate skills needed to prevent and survive outdoor emergencies. Instructors Coral Pendell and Hope Merritt will cover:


Day 1: Be Prepared! Preventing Emergencies


  • Stop/Go Boating Choices

  • Safe Boating Skills

  • Waves, Weight, and Trim

  • Navigation

  • Safe Behavior

  • Dress For Success

  • Survival Kits

  • Cold-Water Survival Skills


Day 2: In The Event Of An Emergency


  • Fire Extinguishers

  • Emergency Signals


  • Reducing Vessel Flooding (Damage Control Trainer)

  • In -The-Water Practice With Immersion Suits (Harbor Swim)


We are excited to bring this youth camp to Sitka. AMSEA has extensive experience teaching cold-water survival skills to children at schools throughout Alaska. AMSEA's Surviving Outdoor Adventures curriculum teaches skills to children through fun games and activities.
