AMSEA is conducting a Stability Awareness for Commercial Fishermen class in Sitka, Alaska. This course is offered at reduced cost to commercial fishermen thanks to support form Alaska DCCED, NIOSH, the U.S. Coast Guard, and AMSEA members. The class will cover these topics:

  • Basic Terminology of Stability

  • Owner Responsibilities & Requirements

  • What are Stability, Buoyancy, and Gravity?

  • Vessel Stability: How Does it Work?

  • Stability Risks

  • Seamanship

  • Damage Control

  • Risk Factors for Different Fisheries and Operations

  • How to Calculate, Evaluate, and Display Your Vessel’s Stability

  • How Stability Guidance is Created

  • The “Roll Test”

This class is U.S. Coast Guard-accepted. The Coast Guard recommends stability training for commercial fishermen.
