AMSEA is conducting a five and a half-day U. S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) in Morehead City, North Carolina, from 8:00 Am to 6:00 PM, February 28 to March 4, 2022. The MSIT provides practical, hands-on training in survival equipment use and procedures.

 

This class is an intensive, train-the-trainer program. It is recommended for anyone who wants to provide required Emergency Drill Conductor training for commercial fishermen, or others who need the skills to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. It prepares participants to become U.S. Coast Guard-accepted Marine Safety Instructors and is taught by experienced mariners.

 

This class will cover:

 

  • Methods of Marine Safety Instruction

  • Emergency Procedures

  • Risk Assessment

  • How to Conduct Effective Drills

  • Cold-Water Survival Skills

  • Man-Overboard Recovery

  • Firefighting;

  • Life Rafts

  • Abandon-Ship Procedures

  • Helicopter-Rescue

  • Flares, MAYDAYs, and Other Emergency Signals

  • Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs)

  • Flooding Control

  • Conducting Safety Orientations

  • Cross-Cultural Communication

 

Students may elect to co-teach their first class in Morehead City in a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop on March 5.
