AMSEA is conducting a Stability Awareness for Commercial Fishermen class in Seward, Alaska. This course is offered at a reduced cost to commercial fishermen thanks to support from Alaska DCCED, NIOSH, the U.S. Coast Guard, and AMSEA members. The class will cover these topics:

  • Basic Terminology of Stability

  • Owner Responsibilities & Requirements

  • What are Stability, Buoyancy, and Gravity?

  • Vessel Stability: How Does it Work?

  • Stability Risks

  • Seamanship

  • Damage Control

  • Risk Factors for Different Fisheries and Operations

  • How to Calculate, Evaluate, and Display Your Vessel’s Stability

  • How Stability Guidance is Created

  • The “Roll Test”

This class is U.S. Coast Guard-accepted. The Coast Guard recommends stability training for commercial fishermen.
