Would you like to teach marine safety skills to commercial fishermen and other mariners? If you answered with an enthusiastic “yes”, then you should know that AMSEA is conducting a Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) workshop in Sitka, Alaska, September 19-24, 2017.
The MSIT is an intensive train-the-trainer course that prepares you to effectively teach cold-water survival procedures, use of marine safety equipment, and vessel safety drills. Topics covered during the course will include:
Preparation For Emergencies
Cold-Water Near Drowning
Emergency Procedures & Onboard Drills
Methods Of Instructions
Upon completion of the course, you will be prepared to teach AMSEA’s U.S. Coast Guard-accepted, Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor training, pending authorization from the Coast Guard. The day after the course ends, you can even help teach your first class, a Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor workshop in Sitka on September 25.
The MSIT is free for qualifying commercial fishermen and $995 for the rest of us. As an AMSEA instructor, you can organize your own marine safety classes and charge your own rate or contract with AMSEA to teach classes in your community. So what are you waiting for? Check out the Instructor Training page or call Coral at (907) 747-3287 for information and to register.
