AMSEA strives to train marine safety instructors on every coast. That's why we hold Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) classes not only in Alaska, but in different parts of the country each year.
Our next MSIT will be held February 3-8, in Abbeville, Louisiana. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone on the Gulf Coast or Southeast Atlantic Coast to train to become an AMSEA instructor.
The MSIT is AMSEA’s six-day, USCG-accepted, train-the-trainer course. MSIT graduates are qualified to teach marine safety & survival topics, like survival gear, firefighting, damage control, man overboard recovery, distress signals, abandon ship procedures, and sea survival. Once approved by the U.S. Coast Guard, MSIT grads can teach Fishing Vessel Drill Conductor classes for AMSEA or for their own business.
The MSIT covers:
Preparation for Emergencies
Sea Survival, Equipment, Procedures & Onboard Drills
Cold-Water Survival
Cold-Water Near Drowning
Hypothermia
Land Survival
Food and Water in a Survival Situation
Methods of Marine Safety Instruction
Cross-Cultural Communication
Risk Assessment & Risk Management
The cost for the MSIT is $995. Partial scholarships are available to qualifying commercial fishermen.
We know that AMSEA training is effective and there is an ongoing need for marine safety training in every fishing port in the country.
